YES

WE

DID!

We made history tonight. You and me. I was overcome with joy. I had tears. Tears of joy. Tears of relief. Tears of faith in the American people. Those of you that know me wouldn't be surprised that I could cry, and almost exclusively at certain movie endings, like It's a Wonderful Life. Oh yeah, it's one of those moments.

THE NIGHTMARE IS OVER!!!

Well, not really. We'll have still-president W to kick around for two and a half more months.

McCain was actually gracious in his concession speech. His crowd was not.

Obama was also gracious in his victory speech. His crowd was too.

It's time for unity, and the mandate he got -- the mandate we got -- is to unite this country once again and to restore our alliances in the world and build new alliances.

I've been really quiet over the last six months. Work, as usual, has been busy, as has life at home. Part of this comes from keeping up with current events through, oddly enough, fake news and pundit shows like The Daily Show and The Colbert Report (respectively), and real pundit shows like The Rachel Maddow Show. Because of the state of the nation, I still depend on the smart and funny Rachel on Air America (and now on TV) and the smart and funny and brutally honest Randi Rhodes, now at Nova M Radio. And still heavily on NPR via KPBS FM, and increasingly so, for the balance. For more humor, I've been checking out the Indecision 2008 blog on Comedy Central.

It should be no surprise to anyone who knows our family that we want, nay, need, Sen. Barack Obama to be our President. After 8 long years of decline in so many things in this nation, especially the fabric of the nation itself, this country needs someone who understands the Constitution (being a Constitutional scholar), the role of faith in public life (being a progressive Christian evangelist), real bipartisanship (working with Sen. Lugar (R-IN) to prevent nuclear proliferation, Sen. Coburn (R-OK) on ethics reform, and Sen. Hagel (R-NV) on assessing the situation in Iraq), and real policies on the important issues of our time -- the economy, health care, the environment, energy independence, and national security and counterterrorism.

That's just my list. There's an even more comprehensive list with linked sources.

Okay, that's out of the way now.

As for the family, not much different. Timmy's in second grade now. His upgraded to a 1/8 size violin that we're renting, since the 1/16 one we own is way too small now. We also had another recital, where Timmy played with the group (no solos), and I did a solo near the end. Maybe I didn't mention the previous recital. We had a recital in the Spring too. Evelyn's in Timmy's old class at the daycare with the same excellent teacher, Ms. Nancy. Maureen and I have attended three weddings (with one forthcoming) and two funerals and welcomed three babies (no, none of them ours). Life goes on, and life finds a way.

Here's to hope for the future and peace to our world.
